THE ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA met, according to appointment, at Rochester, New York, in the Central Presbyterian Church, at 10.30 o'clock A.M., on Thursday, May 20, 1915; and was opened with a sermon by the Moderator, Rev. Maitland Alexander, D.D., LL.D., from Hebrews xii. 2 and John xv. 11.

After the sermon, the Assembly was constituted with prayer.

The Committee of Arrangements, through its Chairman, Rev. C. Waldo Cherry, presented a Report in part, which was adopted and is as follows:

The Committee of Arrangements recommends:

1. That the Assembly meet this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. 2. That the rule requiring that the Lord's Supper, at the sessions of the Assembly, be celebrated on the evening of the first Thursday, be and hereby is suspended for this Assembly, and that the Sacrament be administered at this morning's session, immediately after the constitution of the Assembly by prayer.

3. That the retiring Moderator, as is the custom, preside at the Communion; that the Rev. E. F. Hallenbeck, D.D., and the Rev. C. Waldo Cherry administer the Bread and the Cup, and the following Ruling Elders serve in the distribution of the elements: J. Willis Baer, of the Presbytery of Los Angeles; Walter J. Lewis, of the Presbytery of Indiana; George H. Althouse, of the Presbytery of Kansas City; T. Edward Ross, of the Presbytery of Philadelphia North; W. U. Follansbee, of the Presbytery of Pittsburgh; A. A. Loetscher, of the Presbytery of Waukon; Thompson McClintock, of the Presbytery of Chester; Henry Robertson, of the Presbytery of Chicago; R. J. Humphrey, of the Presbytery of Blairsville; James P. Dusenberry, of the Presbytery of Newark; Kenneth H. Lanning, of the Presbytery of New Brunswick; Silas F. Hallock, of the Presbytery

of New York; John T. Birge, of the Presbytery of Troy; Gustavus W. Knowles, of the Presbytery of Philadelphia; with Horace McGuire, Thomas Dransfield, William A. Hubbard, and F. M. Ellery, of the Presbytery of Rochester.

The Lord's Supper was then celebrated with due solemnity, the Assembly uniting reverently therein with prayer and praise, the Moderator pronouncing the apostolic benediction.

The Assembly took recess, and was closed with prayer.

THURSDAY, May 20, 2.30 o'clock P.M.

The Assembly met and was opened with prayer.

Upon permission of the Assembly, Rev. Vincent Pisek, D.D., pastor of the Bohemian Presbyterian Church of New York, was introduced by Rev. John Timothy Stone, D.D., and presented to the retiring Moderator a gavel commemorative of the five hundredth anniversary of the death of John Huss. The gavel is a unique work of art, containing woods from the birthplace of Huss and the chapel in which he preached, pieces of Hussite and other money, with blood-red jewels, and is inscribed with the names of John Huss, Jerome of Prague and other Reformers, and a quotation from the John Huss Battle Hymn. With Dr. Pisek were the following Bohemian ministers: Rev. V. Vanek, D.D., Rev. J. Kucera, Rev. J. Miksovsky, and, in addition, Mr. S. A. Beranek. Dr. Alexander made fitting response, expressing his high appreciation of the gift and gratitude for it.

Upon the report of the Permanent Committee on Commissions, the following ministers and elders were recognized as duly appointed Commissioners, and their names were entered upon the
