12. AND whereas by an Act made in Recital of the Twelfth Year of the Reign of his late feveral Claufe Majesty King George the Firft, intituled, An Act to prevent unlawful Combinations of Workmen employed in the Woolen Manufactures, and for better Payment of their Wages, all Contracts, Covenants, or Agreements, and all By-laws, Ordinances, Rules or Orders made or entered into, or hereafter to be made or entered into by or between any Perfons brought up in, or profeffing, ufing, or exercifing the Art and Mystery of a Wool Comber, or Weaver, or Journeyman Wool Comber, or Journeyman Weaver, in any Parifh or Place within this Kingdom, for regulating the faid Trade or Mystery, or for regulating, or fettling the Prices of Goods, or for advancing their Wages, or for leffening their ufual Hours of Work, are declared to be illegal, null and void, to all Intents and Purposes: And it is, by the faid last mentioned Act (amongst other Things) enact

ed, That if any Wool Comber, or Wea ver, or Journeyman Wool Comber, or Journeyman Weaver, or other Perfon concerned in any of the Woolen Manufactures of this Kingdom, fhall at any Time keep up, continue, act in, make, enter into, fign, feal, or be knowingly concerned in any Contract, Covenant, or Agreement, By-law, Ordinance, Rule, or Order of any Club, Society, or Combination, by the faid Act declared to be illegal, or fhall prefume or attempt to put any fuch illegal Agreement, By-law, Ordinance, Rule, or Order in Execution, every Person so offending, being thereof lawfully convicted in Manner preferibed by the faid Act, fhall, at the Difcretion of the Juftices of the Peace before whom fuch Conviction fhall be had, be cominitted either to the Houfe of Correction, there to be kept to hard Labour for any Time not exceeding Three Months, or to the Common Gaal of the County, City, Town, or Place where fuch Offence fhall be committed, there to remain without Bail or Mainprize for any Time not exceeding Three Months: And it is, by the faid laft mentioned Act, alfo further enacted, That if any Perfon retained or employed as a Wool Comber or Weaver, or Servant in the Art or Mystery of a Wool Comber or Weaver, fhall depart from his

Service before the End of the Time for which he is hired or retained, or fhall quit or return his Work before the fame fhall be finished according to Agreement, unless it be for fome reafonable Cause to be allowed by Two or more Justices of the Peace within their refpective Jurifdictions, every Perfon fo offending, being thereof Convicted in Manner prescribed by the said Act, fhall be committed to the House of Correction, there to be kept to hard Labour for any Time not exceeding Three Months; and if any Wool Comber, Weaver, Servant, or Perfon hired, retained, or employed in the faid Art or Myftery, fhall wilfully damnify, spoil, or destroy (without the Confent of the Owner) any of the Goods, Wares, or Work committed to his Care or Charge, or wherewith he shall be entrusted, fuch Offender, being thereof convicted, fhall forfeit and pay to the Owner or Owners of fuch Goods or Wares fo damnified, spoiled, or destroyed, double the Value thereof, to be levied by Diftrefs and Sale of the Offender's Goods and Chattels, by Warrant or Warrants under the Hands. and Seals of any Two or more Justices of the Peace, within their refpective Jurifdictions; and, for want of fufficient Diftrefs, fuch Juftices fhall commit the Party or Parties offending to the House of Correction, there to be kept to hard LaP 2 bour,
