TWELFTH ANNUAL REPORT.

IN making their Annual Report to the General Assembly, the Board of Publication feel called upon for special gratitude to God for the mercies of the year that has closed. The injury sustained by the fire has been far more than repaired; the circulation of books and tracts has been larger than in any previous year, and the prospects for extended usefulness in building up the Church, and spreading abroad the Redeemer's kingdom, are more cheering than at any previous period.

ERECTION OF THE NEW BUILDINGS.

At the date of the last Annual Report, the Board were about erecting new buildings in place of the ruins left by the fire. This work was prosecuted with so much energy, that, although the ground was only broken on the first of March, the establishment was ready to be occupied on the 15th of August, and entirely completed by the 13th of October. The buildings cover the whole lot, which is 25 feet front by 174 feet in depth, and are four and five stories high, with conveniences for the accommodation of this and two others of the Boards, probably unsurpassed by those of any similar institution. The Boards of Demestic Missions and Education very readily agreed to make their offices in this establishment; and the arrangement, it is believed, has proved highly satisfactory to the officers of these institutions, as well as a great convenience to those transacting business with them.

The entire cost of the new buildings was $20,291.47, and the furnaces, introduction of gas and water, furniture, and other fixtures, cost $2,364.68 additional. The amount
