PREFACE.

THIS little volume is an unpretentious effort to present, in the briefest possible manner, the gleanings of several years' careful study of the Sewer Gas question. It has been condensed from the lectures on Sanitary Science delivered by the author before various Medical Societies and Colleges. While extended consideration has been given to those matters that specially call for it, brevity has been aimed at, that whatever other faults may be found with the discourse, no one shall deny it the rare merit of being short.
