Jean-Pierre-Abel Rémusat was born in Paris in 1788 and died of the cholera

in 1832.

This Work deservedly bears a high reputation, and is a valuable aid in the acquisition of Chinese; much of the materials were taken from Premare's Notitia, which at that time existed only in manuscript. The Preface contains critical Notices of all the preceding works. Ch. Rep. XVIII-403.
