The author of this literary forgery, George Psalmanaazaar, (an assumed name) was born in the South of France about 1679 and died in 1763. He wrote an article on the island of Formosa for the "Complete System of Geography" published in 1747 as a sort of reparation for the fables he had formerly printed-an Essay on Miracles and several other works. After his death were published * Memoirs of commonly known by the name of George Psalmanazar, a reported native of Formosa, written by himself, London, 1765, 8°
