More than one-half of the whole set is devoted to the Ethnography, Botany, Geology, Mammalia, Ornithology, Icthyology, and Reptilia of the country traversed. There are some VOCABULARIES of the Languages of the INDIAN TRibes.

The two last volumes are called in one set "Supplement to Vol. I," and in the other " Vol. XII, parts I and II:" but the contents are the same, i.e., "Supplementary Report of Explorations from ST. PAUL TO PUGET SOUND, by Isaac I. STEVENS, Governor of Washington Territory," with the Reports on the BOTANY and ZOOLOGY.

Appears to be written on Government paper. Very interesting as shewing the manner in which the Proprietors wished the Indians to be treated. The Sir William JOHNSON, to whom it was addressed, was his Majesty's sole agent and superintendent of Indian affairs' and colonel of the six United Nations; he had lately concluded a treaty with the Senecas.

The history of a marvellous claim, well worth preserving in all American libraries, as illustrating the History of the N.A. Colonies chiefly in the 17th century.

The "Fisheries Question " would be quite settled if the "Earl of Stirling's" claim could be made good for "licenses to fish on all the coasts of Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward's Island," could be granted by him (and his descendants) alone, by virtue of his rights as "Hereditary Lieutenant General and Lord Proprietor of Canada and Nova Scotia."
