CONVERSAZIONE. PROF. TYNDALL'S LECTURE. The first Conversazione of the Season will be held at the House of the Institution, Finsbury Square, on Wednesday, January 25. The doors will be open at Seven, and at Half-past, Professor TYNDALL, LL.D., F.R.S., by special request, will deliver his Lecture "On Dust and Disease." This Conversazione was originally announced for December, 21, but the date was altered to enable Dr. TYNDALL to join the Eclipse Expedition. EDUCATIONAL LECTURES. PROF. HUXLEY'S COURSE. On Monday, January 23, at Four o'clock precisely, Professor HUXLEY, LL.D., F.R.S., will commence a Course of Six Lectures "On the First Principles of Biology," to be continued on the five succeeding Mondays at the same hour. It is intended for students who are acquainted with elementary physical and chemical truths. Lecture I. Monday, January 23.-The Three Primary Forms, or Types, of Living Matter, as exemplified by Torula, Protococcus, and Protogenes. Lecture II. Monday, January 30.-The Modifications of the Torula-type exhibited by Penicillium and other Fungi. Lecture III. Monday, February 6.-The Cryptogamic Modifications of the Protococcus-type. Lecture IV. Monday, February 13.-The Phanerogamic Modifications of the Protococcus-type. Lecture V. Monday, February 20.-The Simpler Modifications of the Protogenes-type. Lecture VI. Monday, February 27.-The more Complex Modifications of the Protogenes-type. The Fee for this Course is Five Shillings. The number of tickets is limited. Students under the age of Eighteen have the privilege of attending an Examination for Prizes and Certificates, at the termination of the Course. |
