SPRUNER'S SCHOOL ATLAS of

DR. SPORN and S GEOGRAPHY. The great

and important difference between this Historical atlas and the ordinary ancient and modern atlas, now in use, is, that it gives a series of maps of the same countries at different periods, representing the various States and their boundaries, which have successively risen in the known world from the commencement of the Christian era: so that, to whatever page of history you turn, or of whatever country, you will here find a map illustrating that particular period, and in which will be found all the names, divisions, &c. which are there spoken of. Thus we have a map representing the great Roman empire, in which the names and localities of the numerous hordes and tribes of that time are all marked down, then comes a map showing the kingdoms founded on the ruins of its western portion; passing on through several maps, we trace history as it advances through the Carlovingian period, and that of the earlier Mahommedan Khalifs, the reign of Charlemagne and on and on until we come to a map of Europe at the time of the French revolution, with the campaigns of Napoleon planned out in index maps; a map of 1858 brings us to our own day. The history of Great Britain, of colonization, of maritime discovery throughout the world are particularly delineated, and each map is accompanied by descriptive letterpress from Prof. Wilhelm

Pütz.

A specimen map and letterpress will be forwarded on application.
