My dear Mr. Ambassador:

The following constitutes a status report as of the close of business today:

At the time of dispatch of my recommended letters to Mr. Truman and Mr. Nixon on 7 March 1964, a photo copy of Mr. Truman's letter was not available. Che is forwarded herewith (Incl. 1).

Col. Pak advised me that on 9 March 1964 he had.

a two and a half hour conference with Ambassador Kim, Chung Yul and briefed him on all aspects of the Foundation.

On 10 March the Ambassador addressed a meeting of the Eubassy, staff and informed them in essence that:

a. He had been briefed on the Foundation;

b.

He desired to accord the Foundation an
expression of his interest;

C. He desired that the members of the passy.
staff acquaint themselves with all aspects
of our endeavor;

1.

He had directed Col. Pak to preaare a
comprehensive briefing on the Foundation
to be presented to the Embassy staff for
their information;.

It was his desire that the Foundation in
its efforts, place particular emphasis on
support of The Freedom Center;

He had appointed Counselor Kim, Un Yong
as Embassy project officer for Cultural
Activities, again with particular emphasis
on The Freedom Center.

The following named gentlemen have graciously accepted appointment as Directors:

Hon. Floyd S. Bryant,

Mr. Roy St. Lewis.

...

You will note from the copies of my correspondence that I have invited comments from our Officers on various portions of our new brochure. These comments are now being received and evaluated (cl.. 5). 3

Yesterday, I had a most productive meeting with. Bryce Harlow in connection with our desire to have General Ike as an Honorary President. During the course of discussion I mentioned that Admiral Burke is nom.on the West Coast. Bryce immediately urged that the Admiral be contacted and a recommendation be made to him that,sion. should he see General Ike, he brief him on the Foundation. Since the Admiral does-not normally contact his office by phone when he is out of town I dispatched a nite: letter to him incorporating Bryce's recommendation. A copy of this nite letter is attached (cl. 5)..;

Mr. Francis Hill, our General Counsel, is moving rapidly ahead on legal actions required in connection y with our incorporation and the securing of neccessaryts certifications from the District of Columbia and the US Treasury.

Again hoping that you all are having a wonderful vacation and with kindest personal regardз, I am,

Dear Colonel Curtin:

Unfortunately I didn't get an opportunity to see General Eisenhower. He was down in Palm Springs, and I was in Los Angeles where I was kept pretty busy. I thought of calling him on the telephone, and then I realized that that would probably do more harm than good.

I'm back here in my office this morning for an hour or so, and then I go to New York again. I think General Eisenhower will accept with an ordinary letter.

Best regards, and thanks for all of

your good work.

Sincerely yours,

ARLEIGH BURKE
