G. CORRESPONDENCE AMONG THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE, THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, AND THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION, WITH RESPECT TO AN INVESTIGATION OF RADIO OF FREE ASIA, 1971–72

Dear Mr. Mardian:

The Department of State has received a number of inquiries concerning "Radio of Free Asta." This organization solicits funds in the United States for the purpose of sponsoring broadcasts from Seoul, Korea to North Korea, Communist China and North Viet-Nam.

We would appreciate it if you could inform us of the status of Radio of Free Asia under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Enclosed are copies of a letter from the Department of State together with the reply of this Division concerning the above subject.

In the event your Bureau has any current file information concerning the background or activities of the above subject, this Division will appreciate whatever you may be able to furnish so as to respond to the request of the Department of State.

In the event your files are negative, it will be appreciated if you will ascertain the principal place of business of the above subject in the United States and interview its responsible official concerning the background and fund raising activities of the subject.

In response to your inquiry of December 23, 1970, this will advise that this Department has no information pertaining to "Radio of Free Asia" and hence can give no opinion concerning its status under the provisions of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

A request is being made, however, to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for any available information it may have in its files concerning the above subject; or which may result from the inquiry it has been requested to make.

You will be advised by subsequent letter of any information and determination resulting from the inquiry to the Bureau.
