American The American Art Union was established in 1847. In 1852 its operation was suspended by the Declaration of the Courts of the State of New York, that it was unconstitutional to distribute by lot. It is to be regretted that there is no prospect of seeing the American Art Union revived under its former plan. Although its córporate powers still exist, and it can do all it could before, except distributing Works of Art by lot, its great usefulness is no doubt destroyed by the deprivation of that feature. 9s.
