This unique, multilingual, encyclopedic dictionary in two volumes covers terms regularly used in landscape and urban planning, as well as environmental protection. The languages are American and British English, Spanish (with many Latin-American equivalents), French, and German.

The dictionary is intended for use by landscape architects, urban planners, nature conservationists, and environmentalists, working in planning practices, authorities (both local and government), research and educational institutes.

Since its first publication in 2001 with German as the lead language, the dictionary has been completely revised and extended, so that it now contains a total of approximately 10,500 terms in each language.

The terms have not simply been translated. Definitions are also given, together with cross references to generic and specific terms. As often as possible, various interpretations of the term at the planning, legal or technical level are provided, which make its meaning more precise and its usage clearer.

At the same time definitions in each of the languages are also a valuable aid in understanding and enable alternative wordings for everyday use. Helpful suggestions have been made for the translation of a term, which does not exist in one or another of the languages, or is as yet unused.

Three detailed indices, in Spanish, French, and German in the second volume of the dictionary, are referenced numerically according to the English order, and allow the user to find a word in any of the languages.
