THE EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION. Mrs. Jemison was the first white woman to descend the Ohio river and her narrative contains many details of her experiences in the Western wilds. For many years this original edition was unknown.

Besides the valuable relations which afford us the first accounts of the Indian tribes which inhabited the vast tract of territory from the St. Lawrence to the Mississippi, the author has added notes and bibliographical accounts of works upon aboriginal history, which are scarcely to be overestimated.
