Of all the works printed by the Aldine Press for F. Torresano, the Dio Cchrysostomus is the rarest. A choice copy with a fine provenance, being the Renouard, Syston Park, Hoe copy, with bookplates.

44. BAYARD (PIERRE DU TERRAIL, SEIGNEUR DE). Called "Chevalier sans peur et sans reproche." A. L. s., 2 pp., folio, no date. To Mons. d'Alegre.

THIS IS SAID TO BE THE ONLY AUTOGRAPH LETTER OF THIS CHIVALROUS SOLDIER KNOWN TO BE IN EXISTENCE. The Imperial Library of France possesses his signature to an official document, and letters subscribed by him are known, but ONE ENTIRELY IN HIS HAND WITH HIS FINE SIGNATURE IS NOT KNOWN, SAVE IN THE PRESENT INSTANCE.

The letter is extremely characteristic, referring to his lansquenets, and is addressed to the celebrated Count d'Alegre who was killed at the battle of Ravenna in 1512.

47. BELLINGHAM (RICHARD) AND LEVERETT (JOHN). Colonial Governors of Mass. The concluding half portion of a letter to the Rev. Mr. Phillips, Pastor of the Church of Christ, dated Boston, fifth of Tenth Month, 1671. Signed by both.

The recipient has evidently made use of the blank portion of the double letter sheet, and has filled it with Sermon notes.

VERY RARE. In a splendid state of preservation. Two leaves appear to be wanting, but the present copy contains at the end 41 LEAVES beginning "Incipiunt interpretationes Hebraicorum nominum," NOT MENTIONED IN HAIN, NOR DO THEY APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN IN THE VERY FEW COPIES

WHICH HAVE OCCURRED.

This copy was formerly in the College of the Society of Jesus, Bambergæ, 1763, and also contains a few Records of the Beck Family, one member of which, the Rev. Anthony Beck, was Bishop of Durham, England.
