or Infufficiency of fuch Diftrefs commit the Offender or Offenders to the Houfe of Correction on a First Offence for any time not exceeding Seven Days, on the Second Offence for any time not exceeding Fourteen Days, and on the Third or any fubfequent Offence for any time not exceeding Twenty one Days, unlefs the whole of the Penalty, Cofts and Expences be fooner paid and difcharged. IV. Provided likewife, and be it further enacted, That neither this Act nor any thing herein contained fhaall extend or be conftrued to extend to prejudice the ancient Right or Cuftom of the Two Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, or either of them, or of their or either of their Clerks of the Market, or the Practice within the feveral Jurifdictions of the faid Univerfities or either of them used to afcertain and appoint the Weight of all Sorts of Bread to be fold or expofed to Sale within their feveral Jurifdictions, but that they and every of them fhail and may feverally and respectively from time to time, as there fhall be Occafion, afcertain and appoint within their feveral and refpective Jurifdictions the Weight of all Sorts of Bread to be fold or expofed to Sale by any Baker or other Perfon whatsoever within the Limits of their feveral Jurifdictions, and fhall and may inquire and punif the Breach thereof as fully and freely in all refpects as they used to do, and as if this Act had never been made, any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithflanding.

V. And be it further enacted, That all Powers, Authorities, Provifions, Directions, Penalties, Forfeitures, Claufes, Matters and Things contained in the feveral Acts now in force, not altered or varied by any of the Provifions of this Act, as far as the fame are or can be made applicable, and can be applied for the carrying into Execution the Purposes of this Act, fhall be used, exercised, and put in Execution for enforcing the Regulations, Provisions and Directions of this Act, in fuch and the fame manner as if the fame were herein contained, and were at large re-enacted and made Part of this Act, and the Penalties by this Act inflicted fhall be recovered and applied in like manner as the Penalties by the faid feveral other Acte inflicted are directed to be recovered and applied.

VI. And be it further enacted, That this Act fhall be deemed and taken to be a Publick Act, and fhall be judicially taken Notice of as fuch by all Judges, Juftices and others, without being specially pleaded.

An Act to grant to His Majefty certain additional Duties upon
Letters and Packets fent by the Poft within Ireland.
[15th June 1810.]

Moft Gracious Sovereign,

WE

E Your Majefty's moft dutiful and loyal Subjects, the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in Parliament affembled, being delirous of railing the neceffary Supplies to defray your Majefty's Publick Expences, and of making a permanent Addition to the Publick Revenue of Ireland, have freely and voluntarily refolved to give and grant unto your Majefty the Rates and Duties hereinafter mentioned; And do therefore most humbly befeech your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it

enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Au

thority of the fame, That from and after the Expiration of Ten Additional Rates Days after the paffing of this Act, it fhall and may be lawful to and of Postage, for the Poftmafter or Poftmafters General of Ireland for the time being, and his or their Deputy or Deputies, Servants and Agents, to and for the Ufe of His Majefty, his Heirs and Succeffors, to have, demand, receive and take for the Portage and Conveyance of all Letters and Packets which he or they fhall convey, carry or send Poft to and from Places within Ireland, the additional Rates and within Ireland. Duties hereinafter specified, the fame being rated by the Letter or by the Ounce; (that is to fay) for the Port and Conveyance of every fingle Letter or Piece of Paper from the Office in Ireland, where fuch Letter or Piece of Paper fhall be put in, to any Difance within Ireland, the Sum of One Penny, for every Double Letter Two pence, for every Treble Letter Three pence, and for every Ounce in Weight, and for every Packet not exceeding an Ounce in Weight Four pence, and fo in proportion for any greater Weight than One Ounce, reckoning every Quarter of an Ounce

equal to a Single Letter; and that all Letters and Packets directed From Ireland to from any Place in Ireland, to any Part or Parts in Great Britain or G, B. &c. beyond the Seas, or received in Ireland from Great Britain or any Part or Parts beyond the Seas, fhall be charged and pay for their Portage and Conveyance within Ireland, from or to Dublin, Waterford, Donaghadee, or any other Port where Packet Boats for the Conveyance of Letters to and from Ireland are or may be established, as they fhall respectively be shipped from or landed in any of the faid Places, according to the Additional Rates aforefaid; and that every Letter or Packet paffing through the General Poft Office in the City of Dublin, from any Place within Ireland not lefs diftant than Four Miles from the General Poft Office in the faid City, to any Place within Ireland not lefs diftant than Four Miles from the General Poft Office in the faid City, fhall be charged and pay according to the faid Additional Rates to Dublin, and be further charged and pay according to the faid Additional Rates from Dublin; all which Rates and Duties fhall be over and above the Duties of Poftage payable on any fuch Letters and Packets under any Act or Acts in force in Ireland at the time of pafling of this A&.

§ 16.

II. And be it enacted, That from and after the Expiration of Ten Days after the paffing of this Act, fo much of an Act made 43 G. 3. c. 29. in the Forty third Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, for granting Rates and Duties upon Letters and Packets fent by the Poft within Ireland, as relates to the Mode of folding printed Newfpapers fent by the Poft free of the Duty of Poftage, and as provides that no Newspapers printed in Ireland fhall pafs free of Pottage, unless such Newspapers fhall be put into the Poft Offices of the Cities and Towns where or in which fuch Newspapers be printed, Two Hours at leaft before the time of the Poft being difpatched therefrom, fhall be and repealed. the fame is and are hereby repealed.

III. And be it further enacted, That the faid Rates and Duties Rates paid in hereby granted fhall be paid and payable in Irish Currency, and fhall Irish Currency be raifed, levied, collected, managed, recovered and applied, under levied as under

fuch and the like Powers and Authorities, Rules, Regulations and Restrictions, Penalties and Forfeitures, and fubject to the like Provifions, Exemptions and Exceptions, and Privileges as are mentioned, 43 G. 3. c. 28. expreffed and contained in an Act made in the Forty third Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty, intituled, An Ad for granting to His Majefly certain Rates and Duties upon Letters and Packets fent by the Poft within Ireland, or in any other Act or A&ts in force in Ireland relating to the Rates and Duties on Letters and Packets fent by the Poft within Ireland; and that all and every the Cianfes, Matters and Things, in the faid recited Act of the Forty third Year aforefaid, mentioned, expreffed and contained, or in any other A& or Acts in force in Ireland relating to fuch Rates and Duties, fhall be applied and extended, and fhall be conftrued to apply and extend to this prefent Act, as fully and effectually, to all Intents and Purpofes, as if the fame had been repeated and re-enacted in this prefent A&t, fave only fo far as refpes the Amount of Duties under the faid Acts or any of them, and fave and except fo far as the said A&ts or any of them are altered or repealed by this Act.

An Act to grant to His Majefty an additional Duty on Dwelling Houfes in Ireland, in refpect of the Windows or Lights [15th June, 1810.]

WE

VE Your Majefty's moft dutiful and loyal Subjects the Commons of Great Britain and Ireland in Parliament affembled, towards raifing the neceffary Supplies to defray your Majefty's Publick Expences in Ireland, have freely and voluntarily refolved to give and grant unto your Majesty the Duties hereinafter mentioned, and do most humbly befeech your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Tempo. ral, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the Fifth Day of Ja. nuary One thoufand eight hundred and ten, there fhall be raised, levied, collected and paid unto His Majefty, his Heirs and Succeffors, over and above all Rates and Duties on Houfes in Ireland in refpect of the Windows or Lights therein, under and by virtue of any Act or Acts in force at the time of the paffing of this Act, the Duty hereinafter defcribed and fet forth (that is to fay), for and out of every Tenement or Dwelling House in Ireland, having more than Six Windows or Lights therein, an additional Duty after the Rate of Fifty Pounds for every One hundred Pounds of the Amount of the Duties payable on fuch Houfes, in refpect of the Windows or Lights therein, under or by virtue of any Act or A&ts in force at the time of the paffing of this Act.

Act granted and made payable fhall be paid and payable, and received and receivable according to the Amount thereof in British Currency; and that the faid additional Duty, the neceffary Charges of receiving and accounting for the fame being deducted, fhall be carried to and made Part of the Confolidated Fund of Ireland.

III. And be it further enacted, That all and every the Claufes, Powers of Regulations, Provifions, Penalties, Forfeitures and Modes of Reco

very thereof, provided, mentioned and contained in an Act made in

the Forty feventh Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, 47 G. 3. Seff. 1, An A to provide for regulating and fecuring the Collion of cer- .21. tain Rates and Taxes in Ireland, in refpect of Dwelling Houfes, Fire Hearths, Windows, Male Servants, Horfes, Dogs and Carriages;

and in an Act made in the Forty eighth Year of His prefent Majesty's 48 G. 3. c. 42. Reign, intituled, An Act to grant to His Majefty certain Duties and extended to this Taxes in Ireland, in refped of Carriages, Dogs, Fire Hearths, Horfes, Act. Male Servants and Windows, in lieu of former Duties and Taxes in refpect of the like Articles; or in any other Act or Acts of Parliament relating to the faid Duties, Rates and Taxes, or any of them, fhall be applied and put in Practice in the Execution of this Act, as fully and effectually to all Intents and Purposes whatsoever, as if all the faid Claufes, Rules and Regulations, Reftrictions, Provifions, Penalties and Forfeitures and Modes of Recovery thereof, had been exprefsly repeated and re-enacted in this Act, and that the faid recited Acts and this Act fhall be construed together as One Act to all Intents and Purpofes whatfoever.

CAP. LXXVI.

An Act to repeal certain Duties under the Care of the Commiffioners for managing the Stamp Duties in Ireland, and to grant new and additional Duties, and to amend the Laws relating to the Stamp Duties in Ireland. [15th June 1810.] Moft Gracious Sovereign,

WHEREAS it is expedient to repeal certain Rates and Duties

upon ftamped Vellum, Parchment and Paper, and upon other Articles and Things under the Care of the Commiffioners for managing the Stamp Duties in Ireland;' Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That all and fingular the Duties upon, or for or in refpect of the Former Duties feveral Articles, Matters and Things, mentioned in Schedule A. to and Allowances this A&t annexed, under the Care and Management of the Com- repealed. miffioners for managing the Duties upon ftamped Vellum, Parchment and Paper in Ireland, and alfo all Allowances whatever on the Purchase of any Stamps in Ireland, granted and made payable by any Act or Acts in force in Ireland, fhall, from and after the Commencement of this Act, ceafe and determine, fave and except as hereinafter and in the Schedule hereunto annexed is excepted, and fave and except in all Cafes relating to the recovering, allowing or paying any Arrears of Duties or Allowances remaining unpaid, and in all Cafes relating to any Offence, Fine, Penalty or Forfeiture, which fhall have been committed or incurred under the faid Acts or any of them, on or before the Commencement of this AG.

II. And whereas the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in Parliament affembled, towards railing the Receffary Supplies granted to Your Majefty, and for Support of Your Majesty's Government, have refolved to grant to Your Majefty 50 Geo. III.

feveral new and other Duties on ftamped Vellum, Parchment and Paper, and other Articles and Things under the Management of the Commiflioners of Stamp Duties in Ireland; and do moft humbly befeech Your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it therefore New Stamp Du- enacted, That, from and after the Commencement of this A&t, in ties granted as in lieu and instead of the faid Duties and Allowances by this A&t reSchedale A. and pealed, there fhall be raised, levied, collected and paid in Ireland, unto His Majesty, his Heis and Succeffors, for and in respect of the feveral Inftruments, Articles, Matters and Things mentioned, enu- merated and defcribed in the Schedule marked A. to this A&t annexed, the feveral Sums of Money and Duties, as they are refpectively inferted, defcribed and fet forth, in Words and Figures in the faid Schedule A.; and that there fhall be made, allowed and paid, for or in refpect of all fuch Articles, Matters and Things, as are inferted, enumerated and defcribed in the Schedule marked B. to this A&t annexed, the feveral Allowances or Sums of Money respectively inferted, described and fet forth in the faid Schedule marked B. any thing in any former Act or Acts contained to the contrary notwithftanding; and that no Sum or Sums of Money fhall be paid or given in the Nature of Discount or Allowance, on the Purchase of Stamps, other than fuch as is and are expreffed and directed in the faid Schedule marked B. any thing in any former Act or Acts to the contrary notwithstanding, and in + the faid Schedules marked A. and B. fhall be deemed and taken as Part of this A&t.

III. And be it further enacted, That the feveral. Duties and Duties, &c. (exAllowances by this Act granted and made payable, (fave and except under 6d. &c.) payable in cept Duties lefs than Six pence, and Duties exceeding Six pence British Currency and lefs than One Shilling) fhall be paid and payable according to the Amount thereof in British Currency; and that in all Cafes where any Duties of Stamps, or any Allowances in refpect thereof, are directed to be ascertained by the Amount of any Sum in respect whereof fuch Duties are impofed, or fuch Allowances are made, fuch Amount, and the Duties and Allowances in respect thereof, shall be eftimated, calculated and taken in British Currency.

V. And be it further enacted, That from and after the Com. mencement of this Act, no Perfon or Perfons dealing in Hats, either as a Manufacturer or Importer of Hats, or as a Wholesale or Retail Dealer therein, fhall have in his, her or their Cuftody or Poffeffion, any Hat lined, mounted or ornamented, without having permanently affixed and appearing in a confpicuous Place therein, the Stamp to which fuch Hat would at the time be liable had it been uttered, vended or fold, upon Pain that every Perfon and Perfons offending in either of the faid Cafes fhall forfeit and pay to fuch Perfon or Perfons as fhall fue for the fame, the Sum of Ten Pounds for every Hat which fhall not have permanently affixed therein as aforefaid fuch Stamp as aforefaid.

VI. And be it further enacted, That in cafe any Perfon or Per fons fhall hawk, carry about, difperfe or diftribute any Hand Bill, not being stamped or marked with the Stamp Duty, by Law re
