Las Americas Publishing Company, 1964 - 362 páginas
Lope de Aguirre's Equinoctial Adventure is a historical novel by Spanish writer Ramón J. Sender. Recreates the expedition to the Amazon organized by Pedro de Ursúa in search of El Dorado and the subsequent rebellion organized by Lope de Aguirre. Rich in characters and descriptions, the novel is narrated in the third person, alternating with Aguirre's own interior monologues. The expedition seems doomed to a disastrous destiny already from the beginning, with a Ursúa dominated until nullity by sexual passion for his lover, the mestizo Inés de Atienza.
