"This Collection, to which some additions have since been made, was put together by John Warburton, Somerset Herald, whose handwriting is on the other side. He was guillotined at Lyons, in 1793, and an Account of him will be found in Noble's History of the College of Arms. He is referred to by Dr. Gower in his Sketch for the Materials for a New History of Cheshire, 1771, who observes, 'his method was perhaps singularly sensible-to glean up every thing, either in print or manuscript, which had the most distant relation to that parti cular county he intended to elucidate. These scattered fragments, like the Sybil's Leaves, he bound up into volumes suitable to the size of the papers he had collected, either folio, quarto, or octavo.'"-J. C.
