THE portions of Acts printed below were omitted from the Volume when in course of preparation, as being either actually or virtually repealed. On consideration, however, it appeared doubtful whether they could properly be treated as no longer in force, and it has therefore been thought desirable to print them in an Appendix, with references to the later Acts by which they may be considered to have been repealed or superseded.

CHAPTER XLI. (1)

AN ACT for the Security of Her Majesties Person and Government and of the
Succession to the Crown of Great Britain in the Protestant Line. a]

AND be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid that this present Parliament or any other Parliament which shall hereafter be summoned and Queen's death. called by her Majesty Queen Anne her heirs or successors [shall 2] not be determined or dissolved by the death or demise of her said Majesty her heirs or successors but such Parliament shall and is hereby enacted to continue and is hereby impowered and required if sitting at the time of such demise immediately to proceed to act notwithstanding such death or demise for and during the term of six months and no longer unless the same shall be sooner prorogued or dissolved by such person to whom the crown of this realm of Great Britain shall come remain and be according to the Acts for limiting and settling the succession and for the union above mentioned And if the said Parliament shall be prorogued then it shall meet and sit on and upon the day unto which it shall be prorogued and continue for the residue of the said time of six months unless sooner prorogued or dissolved as aforesaid

AND be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid that if there be a Parliament in being at the time of the death of her Majesty her heirs or successors but the same happens to be separated by adjournment or prorogation such Parliament shall immediately after such demise meet convene and sit and shall act notwithstanding such death or demise [] for and during the time of

CHAPTER XIX. (1)

AN ACT for the better preventing of excessive and deceitful Gaming. [a]

WHEREAS the laws now in force for preventing the mischiefs which may
happen by gaming have not been found sufficient for that purpose
Therefore for the further preventing of all excessive and deceitful gaming be
it enacted by the Queens most excellent Majesty by and with the advice and
consent of the lords spiritual and temporal and commons in this present
Parliament assembled and by authority of the same that from and after the
first day of May one thousand seven hundred and eleven all notes bills bonds
judgments mortgages or other securities or conveyances whatsoever given
granted drawn or entred into or executed by any person or persons what-
oever where the whole or any part of the consideration of such conveyances
or securities shall be for any money or other valuable thing whatsoever won
by gaming or playing at cards dice tables tennis bowles or other game or
games whatsoever or by betting on the sides or hands of such as do game at
any of the games aforesaid or for the reimbursing or repaying any money
knowingly lent or advanced for such gaming or betting as aforesaid or lent
or advanced at the time and place of such play to any person or persons so
gaming or betting as aforesaid or that shall during such play [so play 2] or bett
shall be utterly void frustrate and of none effect to all intents and purposes
whatsoever any statute law or usage to the contrary thereof in any wise
notwithstanding.

[CHAPTER XXVIII.]

AN ACT for the better regulating of Elections of Members to serve in Par-
liament, for such Cities and Towns in that Part of Great Britain called
England as are Counties of themselves. [b]

[VII.] AND be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that from and Sheriffs to give
after the said twenty fourth day of June one thousand seven hundred and publick notice,

forty six, the sheriff or sheriffs of every city or town being a county of itself and having a right to elect a member or members of Parliament, by virtue of the writ issuing out of Chancery without any precept thereupon, within that part of Great Britain called England, shall forthwith upon the receipt of the writ for election of a member or members to serve in Parliament for such city or town cause publick notice to be given of the time and place of election, and and to proceed shall proceed to election thereupon within the space of eight days next after that of his receipt of the said writ, and give three days notice thereof at least, exclusive of the day of the receipt of the writ and of the day of election.
