Subahfhip of Candic, alias Nagore thefe; By God's tou bleffing, the Fort and Country of Candernagur, alias les doua Tanjore, has been taken poffeffion of by the Circar. es à As I have for a long time past been in friendship voir. with, and been favourably inclined towards the fettlement of the Dutch Company, in consideration of the proper obedience fhewn by the Dutch to the Circar, I write this directing, that, conformable to the times of the Government of former Rajahs down to the time of the administration of the Rajah Pertaupa Sing, you pass the cloths of the Dutch Company, upon receiving one half of the customs; that in the ancient villages likewife belonging to Negapatam, you suffer water to pafs in ihe manner which has been customary of old; that the people moreover belonging to the Dutch Company, with their goods and effects, be fuffered to pass to and fro through the Tanjore diftricts in the fame manner as before; and that in the village of Chickal they may keep their fhops, as has been usual.

Efteeming this a pofitive order, comply with it accordingly.

of the favour, friendship, and fupport which I have ever fhewn to the Dutch Eaft - India Company in the carrying on of their trade; let them now alfo be convinced, that in confideration of their friendship and obedience to the Circar, on the part thereof, they will experience its favour and fupport in carrying on of their trade, in the receiving of their customs, and in fuffering water to pafs to the villages of old belonging to them, agreeable to whatever has been the customs in these respects.

Roufhana ul Dowlah, Haphez Mahomed Monover Cawn Behauder, Behauder Jung, who having been fent with an army, has conquered the fort and country of Tanjore. On the part of the Dutch East - India Company; We the Honourable Reyner Van Vliflingen, Governor and Director of the fea port of Negapatam, on the Coast of Choromandel etc. Gentlemen of the Secret Council of the faid place, belonging to the faid Company, do give this writing, to wit; that having purchased of the difpoffeffed Rajah, Tuljagee of Tanjore, the district of Cavaloor, confisting of 8 Magons, alfo Nagore, Taptora, and the district of Turpondy, together with the Peshcush etc. and having now received from the Circar the amount of the faid purchase, we have delivered all those diftricts to the Circar, mention of which is alfo particularly made in the treaty, as is hereafter expreffed; conformable to which we have returned the faid diftricts to the Circar, and give this engagement, that we have no demand on, or concern

with the faid country. The amount of the five 1773 deeds, purporting the fale of the diftricts, and the amount purchase of the Pefhcufh in money and elephants from the Circar, agreeable to the treaty we have received, which render invalid the faid five deeds of fale, together with a receipt of Cunick Suba Pilla, and Narfingrow, which we have fent to Batavia. We therefore engage, that we will procure the faid deeds and faid receipts from Batavia, and deliver them to the Cirear iù June or July. 1774; in the performance of which, we are not to make ufe of any shifts or evafions. We have given this writing therefore as a Saned, and fign our names thereto, in order that it may be of service on occafion.

Dated the 8th day of the month Rumzaun 1187. of the Mahometan Aera, equivalent to the 23d of November, 1773.
