WHEREAS by long Experience we have found great Corruptions and Delays, and other Inconveniencies, by Courts of Chancery being held in this Island by one Person; for preventing the like Evils for the future, and that we may be under the same Regulation, and enjoy the same Advantages that our neighbouring Colony of Your Majesty's Island of Barbadoes has for many Years past, to the great Encouragement of Trade, and general Satisfaction of all Your Majesty's good Subjects in that Island: 2d GEO. We therefore Your Majesty's most loyal and obedient Subjects, his Excellency Walter Hamilton, Esquire, Captain General and Commander in Chief in and over all Your Majesty's Leeward Caribbec Islands in America, and the Council, and Assembly of Your Majesty's Island of Antigua, humbly pray Your Sacred Majesty that it may be enacted and ordained, and be it, and it is hereby enacted and ordained by the Authority aforesaid, That from henceforth all Court of and every Court or Courts of Chancery, which shall be holden for consist of this Island of Antigua, shall consist of and be holden by the Captain in Chief, and General, or Governor in Chief of the said Leeward Islands, for the five CouncilTime being, and five or more of the Council of this Island at least. III. Provided always, and in case where any Person or Persons, If a Councilwho are or shall be Councillor or Councillors of this Island, shall in Cause, happen to be Party or Parties in such Cause or Causes as shall be Commander depending in the said Court of Chancery hereby constituted, or are three Counnow depending in the Court of Chancery in this Island, in all and cillors a sufevery such said last mentioned Case or Cases, the Captain General, or Chief Governor of the said Leeward Islands, for the Time being, S. 1. the Preand any three Councillors of this Island, shall be a sufficient Number siding Offto hear and determine all Matters in the said Court, with as full Counsellors Power as the Captain General and Governor in Chief, and five of not interested the Council, have by Virtue of this Act in other Cases; and all Court.
