THE PARISHES OF MIGVIE AND TARLAND.'

DESCRIPTION OF THE PARIOCH OF MIGWIE.2 (A.D. M.DCC.Xxv.)

IGWIE parioch is bounded upon the north by Strathdone
and Towie; upon the south, by Coldstane; upon the west,
by Strathdone; and upon the east, by Tarland.

The church lyes three miles south of the river Don;
twenty-five miles west-north-west from Aberdeen; a mile
and a half west from Tarland; and seven miles and a
half, the same way, from the presbytery seat at Kincarden
O'Neil.

Gentlemen's seats are as follows: Pronie, half a mile south from the church, at Seats. the foot of a hill called Maliewat, in the midst of an allar wood: Ardgeith, in the middle of the parioch, a mile west from the church, upon the water of Deskrie and Blackmiln, one mile east from the church.

Hard by Ardgeith is a chappel, with a well called Buyanswell.

The water of Deskrie takes its rise in The Bunniach, or Morven, four miles Rivers. south from the church of Migwie, and, after a course of three miles south-east through that parioch, by the north side of Ardgeith, enters Don at a house of its name.

The water of Earnen takes its origin at a hill called The Leight, about seven miles north from Corgarf Castle, and runs south-east through Glen Earnen about five miles, till it is swallowed up of Don, at Inverearnen.

Rippachie is a brook springing out of Maliewat, and, after about a mile's course north-west, running into Deskrie.

Hills of note are Murvin, on the west; Culblain, on the south; and Malie- Hills. wat, on the east.

The Don bounds it upon the north. Its length, from the head of Earnenside, on the west, to Blackmiln, east, is six miles; and its breadth, where greatest, only one.

3 [About three hundred or four hundred yards south from the church of Migvie may be seen, on a small eminence, the ruins of a castle of the Earl of Mar, where the feu duties of the proprietor of Blelach, in the parish of Logie Coldstone, were appointed by his charters to be paid annually to the superior. This parioch is cheifly fit for pasture, tho' in several places there are good corns. It is now united with the parioch of Tarland.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PARIOCH OF TARLAND.

(A.D. M.DCC.XXV.)

TARLAND parioch has on the north the parioches of Towy and Cushny; on the south, Glentanar; on the east, Coul; and on the west, Coldstane and Migwie. The church lyes in the midle of the town of Tarland, three miles south from Don, and as many north from Dee; twenty-four miles west-north-west from Aberdeen; three, north-west from Aboyn; four, south-west from Kildrummy; and six, west from the presbytery seat at Kincarden O'Neil.

Corrachrie is a gentleman's seat, two miles west from the church.

The village [of Tarland], which is large and commodiously situated for the hills, is a burrough of regality, with a tolbooth, and victuall house for the sale of meal and grain, etc., and a good weekly mercat every Wednesday, with

convenient inns.

It is watered by a brook of the same name, which arises from Maliewat, two miles west, and runs five miles south-east, through Coul, till it enter Dee at Aboyn.

Hills of note are, the Soccoth, on the north, and Luddliek, on the east.
Its length, from The Cults, east, to Corrachrie, west, is three miles; and from
Tindlair, south, to Oldmiln, is about one mile and a half.

This parioch is fertile of corns, but not weel provided in pasture nor mosses.
