In the year 1250, the vicarage of the church of Gamery was taxed at eighteen merks; and there was assigned to the vicar for his provision, the whole alterage with two acres of land. The rest of the church land, with the great tithes of the whole parish, was reserved to the abbot and convent of St. Thomas of Arbroath. The charter of the abbot and convent was confirmed by the Archbishop of St. Andrews, "Andreas Dei et apostolice sedis gratia Archiepiscopus Sancti Andree totius regni Scocie primas legatus natus ac per universum ipsum regnum dicte sedis cum potestate legati de latere legatus," through his commissioners Alexander Hay, prebendary of Turreff, and James Wawane, prebendary of Ellon, at the cathedral of Aberdeen, on the ninth of August, and twentieth of September, 1518, "presentibus ibidem venerabilibus et circumspectis viris magistris Alexandro Symson rectore de Monemusk Johanne Gallway prebendario de Dummaok Thoma Red de Collistoun Patricio Lesly et Willelmo Rolland burgensibus de Aberdene ." The lands of Lethenoth (described as three oxgangs, lying by the sea, between the church of Gamery and Troup), were given to the monks of Saint Mary of Kynloss in Murray, by Robert Corbet, probably in the reign of Saint David. The grant was confirmed by King Alexander II. in the year 1226. See above, p. 234. In the rental of
