FEDERAL AID GRADE-CROSSING PROGRAM, FISCAL YEAR 1943 During the fiscal year 1942, projects financed with regular Federal-aid grade crossing funds were completed, which eliminated 208 railroad grade crossings by separation or relocation, reconstructed 66 previously constructed separation structures which had become obsolete and protected 557 crossings by signals or other devices. At the close of the year, projects were under construction to eliminate 221 crossings, to reconstruct 37 separation structures, and to protect 87 crossings. In addition, projects had been approved for construction to eliminate 31 crossings, to reconstruct 14 separation structures, and to protect 210 crossings.
