THIS LIST of the Books which were in the General Library of the Institute of Jamaica on the 20th of June, 1923, has been prepared in the main for the use of members of the Institute in the country. Those in town have ready access to the Card Catalogue with its full Author-Entries and its numerous Cross-References. The cost of printing has made it necessary to confine the entries in this List to Author-Entries, but in order to render the work as useful as possible the titles have been grouped alphabetically under various heads in accordance with the classification given overleaf. Lack of funds had hitherto prevented the printing of a new edition of the Bibliography of Jamaica (published in 1902 & 1908) and of the West Indies (published in 1909), which together form a Catalogue of the West India Reference Library, but thanks to the kind offer of the Trustees of the Hispanic Society of America to provide the necessary funds, this difficulty has been removed. There are now 16,275 works in the General Library, and 5,904 in the West India Reference Library, or 22,179 in all. Kingston, F. C.
