The Protracted Game: A Wei-Ch'i Interpretation of Maoist Revolutionary Strategy (Galaxy Books) (original 1969; edition 1971)by Scott BoormanThe Protracted Game: A Wei-Ch'i Interpretation of Maoist Revolutionary Strategy is one book that can be understood from its title. This book based on Boorman's thesis is an analysis of Communist Chinese military strategy using the game of Wei-Ch'i, or Go as it is called in Japanese, as a model. I found the idea very interesting and useful, independent of its correctness for Chinese military analysis. It is useful to hear the idea of alternate approaches to strategic thinking. One important point is an approach to strategic movement that places more emphasis on gradual overtake of territory, starting at the periphery and patiently working toward the core. Once read, this is a book that sticks with you and shapes your thinking from then on. |
